Description of Work and Background:

In 2013 I graduated from the Gestalt Institute after doing my clinical placement with Student Counselling Service at The University of Limerick. Prior to this, I qualified as a counsellor in 1992 and established a counselling service for families of people with dementia in Dementia Care Trust in Bristol.

My work in the health care sector spans over 33 years: initially as a general nurse, then a psychiatric nurse and more recently as a trainer of health care professionals in the area of mental health. In 1994 I co-facilitated a mindfulness group in Limerick.

I have a European Certificate of Psychotherapy from the European Association of Psychotherapy and have completed a Master’s in Gestalt Psychotherapy with the Gestalt Institute of Ireland. In my practice I work with individuals and couples, helping them address a range of emotional and psychological difficulties. I have a particular interest in supporting people to makes changes and helping them address what gets in the way of these changes. As the great Civil Rights Leader and African American Author Howard Thurman said: “Don’t worry about what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and do that. Because what the world needs are people who have come alive.” I am passionate in my living and have a keen interest in being alive and can live with the many contradictions and challenges life presents. I work both face-to-face and online. My website is www.counsellinginlimerick.com.
