Description of Work and Background:

My name is Mairead Horkan and I am a qualified psychotherapist. My practice Castlebar Gestalt Counselling is centrally located in Castlebar, Co Mayo.
I trained for 5 years with the Gestalt Institute of Ireland http://www.irishgestaltcentre.com. I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Gestalt Therapy and a Degree in Personnel Management. I am a member of the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrated Psychotherapy.

I work from a holistic, person-centered method following the client’s lead. I provide a private, confidential counselling service and work with individuals experiencing a wide spectrum of difficulties/challenges. I provide a non-judgemental, supportive and safe space.

Alongside my private practice, I spend time volunteering with a number of services. I am working as a psychotherapist in Boyle Family Resource Centre, Co Roscommon and have been there since Jan 2017. I am a trained Rainbow Facilitator working in Castlebar in The Family Centre and I have worked for over 2 years in Tacu Family Resource Centre, Ballinrobe Co Mayo as a psychotherapist.

I have a wide range of experience working with groups and individuals. I worked for 25 years in the retail sector working in HR, Training, and Development before embarking on a life-changing career in Counselling. I draw from my experience working creatively with clients bringing all of my experience to my practice.

I am experienced in helping adults with a wide variety of issues, including, but not limited to:
